The five-member GST committee led by Sushil Modi has put the proposal to offer discount up to Rs 100 on applicable GST for the cheque and digital payments in all B2C transactions on hold until the next meeting as some members raised concerns on using the GST as a tool to incentivise digital transactions, CNBC-TV18 reported quoting sources. Sushil Modi said that one more meeting is required to calculate the loss and gains of incentivising the digital transactions. The revenue loss could be up to Rs 25,000 crore, the news channel reported. The GST Council had proposed incentivising digital transaction last Friday. Paytm Payments Bank on Monday announced that it now has over 100 million KYC-compliant wallets of the over 220 million people using its payments service. In October last year, the Reserve Bank of India made it mandatory for PPIs (Prepaid Instruments), including mobile-wallet operators, to make all accounts fully KYC-compliant by December 31. The deadline was later extended to February 28 this year. The Singapore Police Force (SPF) said on Wednesday (18 April) that it has received reports regarding WhatsApp accounts being taken over by scammers. Victims would first receive a WhatsApp message from one of their contacts, whose WhatsApp account might have been compromised, asking for WhatsApp verification codes that they have received via SMS to be forwarded to said contact. After sending the codes to the scammers, the victims would then lose access to their WhatsApp accounts. The SPF added that in a version of the scam seen overseas, the scammers would use the information obtained to deceive the victims’ contacts into purchasing gift cards and then sending over the password for said card.
